It may seem shocking, but there's more to a high-end mall than money. Eugene Schmitt, general manager of The Avenue Carriage Crossing, said it himself last September when Collierville Animal Services was given a pet adoption space rent-free for a year at the upscale mall. "There are certain things that are beyond economics," Schmitt said. "It's a sense of community and the ability to do something." Which just goes to show that while it's wonderful to have an array of the coolest, hippest stores, success is sweetest when it takes into consideration the needs of the community.
