Our winners are ... Services

Memphis Most voters know what they like. And that means good services keep them coming back. Gould’s Day Spa is a previous Memphis Most winner that once again has been chosen as  Best Day Spa. But what does a chief executive choose when faced with so many relaxing choices? “Let’s do the facial massage,” said Mayor Wharton.

So he (and an entourage that included owner David Gould, a photographer, a reporter and several others) squeezed into the small but elegant room where spa coordinator Kari Cook demonstrated how to soothe a furrowed brow.

“Wake me up when this is over,” instructed the mayor. And afterward, when he declared, “I’m calmer,” someone asked if this could be useful for the City Council. “Sedate them,” he said, somewhat inscrutably.

Memphians voted for Fringe Hair Co. in Germantown Village Mall as Best BeautyHair Salon, something that delighted, but didn’t entirely surprise, owner Carla Cutsinger. “We’re very passionate about hair, and it shows,” she says. “We're big on getting advanced education for stylists, and we like to make it a positive experience for our clients.” Others have noticed: Salon Today magazine named Fringe one of the nation’s top 200 hair salons.

Best Employer

Winner: Campbell Clinic

If you have to go to Campbell Clinic, you know your musculoskeletal system will get taken care of. And apparently if you work there, your whole self will get some pretty good treatment as well. And that’s the opinion of our readers who have awarded the clinic a Memphis Most award, now considered yet another benefit of working there.

Best Beauty Salon

Winner:  Fringe Hair Co.

Fringe Hair Co. at the Germantown Village Mall can turn that mullet into something more appropriate for the 21st century. “We do all kinds of hair cutting and lots of hair color,” says owner Carla Cutsinger. But that’s not all. There are 20 employees, and the ones who aren’t styling your coif can do nails and waxing. Sure, you’re already beautiful, but now get more so.
